X1F Cup: Team spirit at work and play!

A very special event recently took place in Hamburg: The employees of the X1F Group and its subsidiaries celebrated their ongoing business success. But above all, they celebrated with fun, games and good company.

Managers, consultants and software engineers playing in the sand? That’s right. “The team games really brought us together once again”, reports Carolin Neumeir, Head of Infrastructure, Cloud and Security at X1F. Together with nearly 145 colleagues, our compliance and cloud consulting expert took part in the X1F Cup 2024. The Cup is an internal company event that the consulting group organizes annually for all its employees, including those of its now 15 subsidiaries.

How did the event affect your team spirit, Carolin Neumeir?

“It has taken the entire X1F team spirit to a whole new level. Overcoming challenges together gives us strength and builds cohesion. No matter how engaged we all were, my team colleagues always cheered me on. That’s exactly how everyday work-life should be: full of people you can always count on.

Carolin and her fellow competitors were not only allowed to hit and parry balls over the net in a beach volleyball hall filled knee-high with sand. In the strategic disciplines, they also guessed figures drawn in the sand or practised the coordination-challenging discipline of beach golf.

For Caro’s colleague Justin Shabani, the highlight was the final tug-of-war: “It was a thrill, and we had to mobilize all our energy reserves as a team,” the Corporate Communications Specialist beams. “My hands were bright red for days afterwards,” he reports. “I would never have thought that you could develop such team spirit – with people you seldom interacted with, due to the increasing size of the X1F Group.”

What was your event highlight, Justin Shabani?

My highlight was finally discovering the “real” faces behind the names that you usually only know from meetings on the screen. That gave the event a very personal touch. It was very special.”

Justin’s team at the X1F Cup stuck together right from the start, reports the marketer. They mastered every game – as if they had been playing together for a long time and knew each other very well.

Lea Kubba, who is in charge of direct marketing at the X1F subsidiary ITGAIN, had a similar experience: she was amazed at how quickly a “team of around ten people developed not only team spirit but also ambition and a strong sense of togetherness. And how actively the people at the event supported and cheered each other on.”

Never again to an X1F Cup, Lea Kubba?

“Quite the opposite. I’m absolutely looking forward to seeing familiar faces again at the next Group event and getting to know even more new people from our X1F Group. If the feelings of team spirit, accomplishment and togetherness can be transferred from this sporting event to the working world, we will all work together productively and pull together.

“The mix of the now 15 individual companies in the X1F Group (as of October 2024) and the individuals who came together was a great fit,” adds Patrick Albert, Manager at X1F subsidiary COMPIRICUS. Like him, ITGAIN colleague Lea is firmly convinced that the great atmosphere experienced at the Cup can easily be transferred to the working world.

Colleague Caro was also constantly chatting to new people from X1F at the sporting event. “When we weren’t having a close look at the opposing team’s strategy and analyzing it in detail, we talked about synergies at work and our next holiday destination.” Presumably – as the sand-filled beach volleyball hall suggests – something to do with the beach and the sea.

What was your attitude when you went home after the event, Patrick Albert?

“I had expected that the great atmosphere at the X1F Cup 2023 could not be topped. However, the current 2024 event proves that we can look forward to continuing journeys together.

At the end of the day, it wasn’t just about team play with a “beach” feeling, lucky streaks and sporting skill. Above all, the Cup was about fulfilling, human encounters. It’s no wonder that some of the participants are already looking forward to next year’s X1F Cup, given the team’s overwhelmingly positive experience.
